Tiny House Living, Not for Me.

Tiny House Living, Not for Me.

There was a point in time when I thought, yes, definitely, I would love to live in a tiny home - I don’t need much, I’m a minimalist. And while the latter sentiment may be true, after only 1 night, it was very clear to me that tiny house living is not for me.

As we road tripped the 10.5 hours to Bradenton, FL in December for the holidays, we opted to break up the drive by staying in a tiny house one night in Alachua. For $68/night this Airbnb was a great overnight spot. The owners did a beautiful job building and decorating it, there was a comfortable, queen size bed, and a full size, functioning bathroom. And while I may feel different if this were the tiny home I was living in from the road, as I travelled the U.S. and worked remote, in my current season of life, especially spending so much time at home, I need a little more space. I’m still good without a lot of possessions, and don’t need 3,000 square feet or anything, but I have really come to appreciate having a full kitchen, a table to sit around with friends, and the simple joy of taking a bubble bath. And of course, this is only one specific layout, but didn’t love being in part of the home where Divot, our dog, couldn’t get to us.

I can’t speak much for Alachua as a destination, as we got in late, in the dark, and left only hitting a Starbucks on our way out of town. But, the Airbnb was in a quiet, residential neighborhood, on a single family property with an additional Airbnb tiny home. The house was super clean, and easy to access with onsite parking. And once again, for the price a way better place to crash than a cheap hotel off the freeway. Thoughts on tiny living? Are small spaces for you?
