Hi there! I'm Kirby!

Welcome to my blog! This is a daily dose of fashionable things from my personal style and good eats to beauty products and things to do!

Getting Dressed in a Global Pandemic.

Getting Dressed in a Global Pandemic.

I haven’t wanted to get dressed in a while. What stemmed from a desire of comfortability while working from home, turned into continuous months of not wearing any shoes other than Converse and hardly putting on an actual pair of pants. Of course not getting dressed started simply from not going anywhere, then a lack of inspiration in fashion, from having no where to go, coupled with a loss of desire to buy anything ‘new’ (typically thrift my clothes these days), and then finally a few extra pounds.

I never considered myself an influencer, I’ve always influenced and inspired myself, but mainly just saw myself as someone who likes to get dressed, and then share that with the world. That said, I give style influencers so much credit right now, those that have kept up and continued to share style inspiration and create content throughout all of this is so impressive - I’m especially taken with those that have not only used their platforms to share fashion musings, but to also use their voice to address so many of the issues going on in the world right now. Over the past few months, I’ve personally felt it’s been important for me to stay relatively quiet and give those who haven’t had a voice a chance to speak up and demand change.

I’ve taken the past few months to work on building a small, thrift and vintage resale business h.h. Wolfs, with a focus on giving back to social justice organizations, and take a step back from painting a picture of a luxurious and stylish lifestyle. While I’ve always tried to keep this space very authentic, I honestly needed this time to focus on educating myself, progress in my own community, and taking care of my own, and my families mental health.

So here we are, my first style post since late April. Today I got dressed, at 3 o’clock that is, not for the day, or to go anywhere, but to shoot this look featuring some vintage pieces for h.h. Wolfs upcoming collection launch. While I actually ended up loving the outfit, and am thinking of keeping this vintage London Fog sweater vest instead of selling it, I went nowhere in this look, my pants weren’t even fully buttoned, and after I did my full make up for the first time in months (mask life, ya know?), once I shot these photos I changed back into my sweats.

This may seem like a weird, what’s the point rant, but this is my very long winded way of letting you know, it felt good. Just simply to create something. To feel like myself again. Though the exact extent to which I got dressed has drastically changed, getting dressed has always been a big part of my identity. I may need to buy some new pants, but today I felt like myself, and I hope I can inspire you in some way, to go easy on yourself, give yourself whatever space, time, grace you may need and focus on whatever it is you may need to focus on right now. If it’s too much, don’t worry about styling your hair, or the size of your jeans, focus on what’s going on in your community, how your loved ones and co-workers are doing, and how you can implement a little change in the world. Take some time to get dressed or not get dressed, focus on your health, and don’t force the things that don’t feel right at this moment. And get out there and vote damn it!
