Fem Favorites.

I opted for extra feminine vibes one day earlier this week by restyling some old favorites I've had in my closet for some time. You've been seeing this midi skirt for years and it's so basic that I keep finding new ways to reinvent it every season. Over the next couple of months I'm setting myself on a styling and budget challenge to work on restyling clothes I already have to make them fresh and exciting in an effort to slow down on my clothing spending. Andrew and I are trying to plan a trip over seas near the end of the year so I will be working to save towards that. So stay tuned for some extra styling tips heading your way with pieces you've seen once, twice, maybe a dozen times! This look is made up of pieces I have had for a while like the top seen here, and the skirt here & here, but I did accent it with a fun, new pair of Steve Madden sandals and suddenly the look felt fresh again. These sandals haven't gone on sale quite yet, I found mine at local shoe shop Tops for under $40 but Target has also done an extremely similar pair here for under $25.

Check Mate.

Talking check today. Gingham was a huge trend all Summer that I think will continue to push into Fall along with it's favorite Fall counterparts plaid, tartan and checks. These are all great prints to start making the transition into the upcoming season but are still easy, wear now styles. I've linked a few of my favorite checked designs below. The look I am wearing is created from two great pieces I scooped up at my first visit to the Clothes Mentor Asheville. Very similar to Plato's Closet for those who are familiar where you can buy, sell, trade your old clothes to upcycle them. I found this Theory sweater and Dolce & Gabbana Skirt for a grand total of $70 but by exchanging some of my old pieces only had to pay $30. Not a bad deal if I say so myself. I love this little cropped sweater because it'll also be great in Fall with high waisted skinny jeans, ankle boots and a great jacket layered over. Share your checked style on Instagram and tag me so I can see, @kirbymorris

The Long & Short of It.

One of the biggest upcoming trends for fall is layering long pieces like tunics and even dresses over your skinny jeans. Turning some of your favorite stand alone pieces into dramatic layers for an updated fall style. You've seen me style this sheer tunic a few times (here & here), and I'm excited to have a new way to wear it into the upcoming season since it seemed like such a summery piece. And of course for Fall I am loving all things bomber jackets, the one I am wearing here is sold out but I linked a super similar one from C&C California that is under $50 here. How do you feel about long layers over your pants? Let me know in the comments below!

Wind Swept.

Got caught in a wind tunnel the other day shooting this look and it literally encompasses how easy breezy this beautiful tunic blouse is. I love the versatility of this piece because it can easily be worn buttoned up or open like I styled it here as a kimono. I think it would also be very stylish to wear it layered buttoned up over a mini dress for an ethereal end of Summer look! I also recently purchased these Forever 21 ankle boots for under $25 and I love the neutral color; I think they're a great transitional shoe for pre Fall dressing.
