This work from home, self quarantine time has been weird, to say the least. I’ve found, over the past week and a half, that finding a little bit of routine throughout the day has helped me stay focused, positive and accomplished as I find the balance of working from our guest room, and filling what seems like lots of extra hours of time finding things to do.

On the first day of working from home, one of my co-workers sent me a recipe from the blog, Ahead of Thyme, for an Apple Cider Turmeric Detox Drink. Realizing I had all the ingredients in my pantry including a fresh jar of Diaspora Co. Single Origin Pragati Turmeric, I figured I would give it a try. It actually ended up being quite tasty, and at a time when focusing on any little thing to keep yourself healthy feels like a necessity, I began making myself this little detox drink every day.

After I was drinking this for a few days, I started to do a little research on the benefits. While there isn’t a lot of research to back health claims for apple cider vinegar, the ‘mother’ or cloud of yeast and bacteria in it is a probiotic so can potentially be benefiting things like skin issues and heart health. As for turmeric, there are lots of benefits of turmeric from its main ingredient, curcumin. The Diaspora Co. Turmeric has a guaranteed 4.7 curcumin content, and curcumin may help with heart disease, alzheimer’s, depression, arthritis and skin issues. Cucurmin however is difficult to absorb into the blood stream, so using it in a way that interacts with pepper is a great way to activate it so it’s easier for the bloodstream to absorb, and easier for you to reap the benefits. And of course lemon juice is a great way to kick off your day - giving you lots of vitamin C, cleansing your liver and relieving joint pain. To me, this seems like a pretty quick, low lift way to give your body some good stuff!

Turmeric Detox Drink

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1/2 tablespoon honey

1/4 teaspoon turmeric

1 cup hot water

pinch of cayenne pepper

The steps to this recipe are extremely simple. First add all of the first four ingredients to your mug of choice, mine of course has been the East Fork Sunday Morning Mug. Then, pour in your cup of hot water and give it a good stir. Top with a pinch of cayenne pepper, and drink right away. That’s it, under 5 minutes!
